Alaska Airlines summer promotion allows Mileage Plan members to earn double miles on select routes and partners. The double mile promotion began June 1, 2017 and runs through September 30, 2017. The best part is that this promotion is actually targeting economy flyers! Instead of offering bonus miles on premium fares, Alaska is mixing things up and rewarding members who fly economy. The promotion is also good for premium economy fares on British Airways, Qantas, Cathay pacific and Japan Airlines.
The double mile bonus applies to only select Global Partners from outside the United States. All routes which qualify for this promotion are from Alaska Airlines West Coast hubs and gateways. This includes Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego to cities around the world. Vancouver, Canada, is also included in this promotion despite the limited presence of Alaska Airlines there.
Premium class flyers will continue to earn their additional redeemable miles base on class of service which Alaska introduced in December 2016 on select partners.
Double Miles in Economy
The Global Partner Double Mile promotion is only good for economy class and premium economy. The miles earned from this promotional are redeemable miles and do not count towards elite status. To earn the double miles, all members must register before flying, and by September 1, 2017 at the latest.

Overall this is a fantastic promotion as it allows economy class flyers earn double miles on several long-haul routes! For example, if flying Qantas between Los Angeles and Sydney instead of earning 7,488 miles one-way, an economy class flyer will earn 14,976 miles! Or 29,952 miles round-trip! That is enough miles for a one-way economy class trip to Europe or South America on Alaska Airlines Global partners! Or even travel round-trip to Northern South America on partner American Airlines during the off-season for just 30,000 miles round-trip!
Do take note the the fare class. Some fare classes do not earn 100% miles on all partners. For example on Korean Air economy fare bucket codes L, U, Q, N, T only earn 50% base miles. Under the terms of this double mile promotion, someone flying a discount economy fare would earn 50% miles twice, or really 100% miles. Take note of the fare class and earning rate to know how many miles you will earn with this double mile promotion.
If flying economy or premium economy this summer, this is one more reason to credit miles to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan versus another frequent flyer program.
