Delta Airlines is giving away free Silver Medallion elite status to targeted customers for two months to allow customers to sample the wonderful horrible world of SkyMiles. The promotional offers customers two months of Silver Elite status for free. During the two months of promotional elite status, if you take two round trip flights within 60 days, your status will be extended through 2015 and Delta will give you 5,000 bonus miles.
Delta Silver status isn’t anything to get excited about, as nearly every benefit except the once in a blue moon upgrade can be achieved with a Delta Credit Card. The only benefit to Delta Silver over pseudo status via a credit card is access to priority seats (exit row, close to the forward cabin), and the slight chance of an upgrade to first or to a Delta Comfort Economy seats a day before departure.
Although I was targeted for this promotion, I do not intend to partake as Delta usually only allow status matches once in a lifetime, or every five years. As I was a long time holder of NWA Platinum and then Delta Status, Silver status seems like nothing. Furthermore, as I watch Delta annihilate their Skymiles program and tear apart customer loyalty, I have no desire or reason to fly Delta.
However, if you for some reason like Delta, enjoy earning fewer miles than ever before, and enjoy giving your money to a company that is in the industry of telling passengers that they don’t care about them, then this promotion is probably for you! After all, flying with some status is better than flying with none!
