I was fortunate to book a trip in Singapore First Class during the short window in July 2012 when it was available to United Mileage Plus members. I didn’t have any trips already planned, but I didn’t want to pass up this rare opportunity. I eventually decided to book a trip to the Maldives for my wife and I, so I added the flights in regional Business Class from Singapore later. Lots of people took advantage of this, and including fellow Upgrd bloggers, Daniel and Matthew’s upgrade to business class.
Our plans are to spend a week at the Park Hyatt Maldives, for which I booked a Hyatt Passport Escapes offering, which unfortunately is no longer available. This was an award booking option that included a number of meals during the course of the stay. Since the Park Hyatt is literally on an island, there are no other dining options, and this seemed like a good way to take some of the sting off the inflated resort pricing.
Currently, our itinerary includes a 6 day stopover in Singapore. I’ve never been there before, and it definitely seems worth a visit, but the point of this post is to solicit feedback on other possible ideas. I’m considering a hop over to Malaysia, maybe a beach/scuba destination like Langkawi or Sipadan, or possibly exploring Kuala Lumpur. I’d imagine with a week in the Maldives, we’ll have lots of beach and scuba or snorkeling time. We could also return to beautiful Bali, but as much as we enjoyed our trip there last year, I’m leaning towards a new destination.
Any must see Singapore sites? I expect to have at least a day there to explore, since our flight from San Francisco arrives just after midnight. Any other suggestions? What destinations should also be on my list?
