Last Thursday, Richard Branson and the Virgin group celebrated the opening of the very first Virgin Hotel, located in the heart of Chicago. To celebrate, Virgin threw a swanky party which kicked off with a recreation of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off iconic Danke Schoen scene directly in front of the hotel. The event drew a larger crowd than what Virgin was prepped for and Richard Branson ended up with a good-faith citation from a local police officer. Richard was quite amused and was later found bragging about it on social media!

The kickoff party actually started at 7pm, red carpet and all, and included live music, famous DJs, free flowing alcohol, dancing, hors d’oeuvre, and some celebrity spotting! The hotel was alive and full of eccentric people from all walks of life and from all corners of the globe!
Yet that wasn’t the best part of the event, my favorite part was actually meeting and sharing a bed with Richard Branson! I originally had a short meeting scheduled with Richard Branson, but because of conflicting schedules and traffic between the airport and the hotel, Richard Branson and I enjoyed a quick walk and talk. As we mingled between meetings, I was fortunate enough to sit in on a photo shoot and share a bed with him!
the photo shoot
The idea of the photo shoot was to allow party patrons to get a picture with a digital recreation of Richard Branson in a Virgin Hotel bed and to allow those not staying at the hotel to view one of the chambers. But since I was there during the photo shoot, I asked Richard Branson if he would allow me to get a quick photo with the “real” Richard Branson. He gleefully agreed without hesitation, jumped under the blankets, told me to get in, and our posing began!
Many laughs later I can now say I shared a bed with Richard Branson in Chicago’s swankest hotel!
