Unlock Your IHG Winter Promo with Offers Staring at 40K Points

by Scott Mackenzie
Last updated January 6, 2019

InterContinental Hotel Group, or IHG, runs regular promotions that often include custom offers for each member. Instead of a public deal, like Hilton’s winter offer of 2,000 bonus points for each stay, the specifics of IHG’s promotion aren’t known until you log into your account and register. IHG takes the customization even further as it usually mixes in a bunch of different criteria, each earning a different number of points.

This year IHG Rewards is promising a minimum of 40,000 bonus points per offer. Ben at One Mile at a Time detailed his offer that was pretty close to this minimum. When I logged into the accounts for my wife and me, I found a much more generous deal topping out at 107,800 bonus points.

  • 28,800 points for staying at three different brands
  • 12,000 points for completing two weekend stays, each of which must include a Saturday night and one other night
  • 6,600 points for booking two packages that include a Bonus Points Package
  • 4,000 points for booking one stay of four or more consecutive nights
  • 2,000 points for booking one stay in February
  • 1,500 points for booking and paying for one stay with my IHG Rewards credit card
  • 52,900 points for completing 5 of 6 tasks

Now, Ben once spent time as a permanent traveler, while I’m comfortable balancing the demands of this blog with a regular office job. It stands to reason that someone who travels more–and more with IHG–is going to need less incentive.

The only time my wife and I stay at an IHG hotel, however, is when we need to redeem a free night award that comes from our IHG credit cards, or if we happen to run out of other options. IHG also tends to offer an easy path to purchase points, which can make sense for certain expensive hotels.

I think this particular offer is attractive enough that we might adjust some of our future travel plans. In particular, we could double up on some of the offers, like booking three stays at different brands and booking those stays over weekends to get the Saturday night bonus. It actually doesn’t require too many nights to maximize the offer. And remember, we only need to complete 5 out of 6 offers to get the achievement bonus of 52,900 points.

Be sure to log into your account to see what your offer is, and remember the promotion runs from January 15 to April 15, 2019.
