TripIt and LoungeBuddy are the two apps I use most frequently when traveling, and today they announced plans to begin sharing information more closely. TripIt users will be able to see lounges available at the airports they visit, including the benefits, photos, and reviews from other travelers. LoungeBuddy provides all this information for free through its own app, and now TripIt users will have access, too.
In addition, TripIt Pro members ($49 for a year, with a free one-month trial) will receive a $25 LoungeBuddy credit to pay for a lounge pass. Some travelers already have access to one or more lounges as a result of elite status, a credit card, or a lounge membership — and usually I’m just looking up my options on the LoungeBuddy app — but when that’s not the case, LoungeBuddy can sell you a pass directly through the app.
I think this is a great way to integrate two services I already use frequently and makes the Pro subscription a better value. TripIt keeps track of all my travel, automatically pulls reservations from my email, lets my wife check in on where I’ll be, alerts me to flight delays. TripIt even alerts me to fare drops. Meanwhile, I use LoungeBuddy to find and compare the airport lounges I have access to along the way. They sell lounge passes, sure, but even those who have free access due to status or a credit card should remember to check it out. It comes in helpful when I’m transiting an unfamiliar airport.
