Earn up to 10,000 Points by Referring a Friend to Marriott Rewards

by Rocky Horan
Last updated March 7, 2020

Each calendar year, Marriott Rewards allows each Marriott Rewards member to refer up to 5 new Marriott Rewards members in order for each party to earn a Marriott Rewards Refer a friend bonus points on the first five stay. The new member must sign up for Marriott Rewards via a special invitation sent from the current Marriott Rewards member and then stay at a Marriott branded property within 365 days of signing up for the new Marriott Rewards account.

Any of the 16 distinctive hotels brands count towards a stay and including a wide range of hotels, motels, and extended stay options such as JW Marriott, Renaissance, Gaylords Hotel, Moxy Hotels, AC Hotels, Fairfield Inn, Springhill Suites, TownePlace Suites, Residence Inn, Courtyard, The Ritz, etc.

Marriott Rewards Refer a friend

The first five (5) stay during the first 365 days of membership will be eligible for a new member bonus of 2,000 points. Both the new member and the member who made the referral will earn 2,000 bonus points per stay for a maximum of 10,000 points each through the Marriott Rewards refer a friend bonus.

Marriott Rewards defines a stay as 1 night in any hotel property, but not consecutive nights in the same property. This means to maximize earning potential, the new member must stay in different hotels, hop between hotels, or stay at the same hotel five times, but with at least one night away between stays. Remember, a five night stay in the same hotel is only consider one stay, even if the member checks out and checks in again.

A simple breakdown of how it works:

  • Refer up to 5 new members each calendar year.
  • Earn 2,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points for each stay your referrals make beginning with their first paid stay, up to 5 stays per referral. That’s 50,000 bonus points for you.
  • Your friends will also earn 2,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points beginning with their first paid stay, up to 5 stays. That’s 10,000 bonus points for them, in addition to the base points they’ll earn.
  • Stays at any participating hotels qualify, and must be within 365 days of enrollment.

If you have any friends staying at a Marriott Hotel and they are not Marriott Reward members, it would be wise to refer them via the Marriott Rewards Refer A Friend website.

This promotion is a win-win for both parties and is honestly something I didn’t know about until recently. Now maximize those points and earn a free night, because after all, free nights can be booked for as low as 6,000 points!
