American Airlines Celebrates Medal of Honor Recipients

by Rocky Horan
Last updated May 4, 2019

American Airlines is keeping with traditions (that started last year) and are honoring all living veterans today and gifting all living veterans who have received a medal of honor with American Airlines highest status. All Medal of Honor recipients will receive AAdvantage Executive Platinum status, and ConciergeKey and Admirals Club memberships. This award will be handed out in Washington DC at the Tomb of the unknown this weekend after a series of events, on that includes an event at New York City’s LaGuardia airport followed by a quick flight on Flagship Liberty to Washington DC.

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded and the Medal of Honor is awarded by the President of the United States to those veterans who “conspicuously distinguish themselves through gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of their lives above and beyond the call of duty.” There have been more than 40 million veterans who have served the USA since the Civil War and fewer than 3,500 Medals of Honor have been awarded. (That’s less than 0.00875%!!!)

This is the Second year that American Airlines has gifted this status to the Medal of Honor’s recipients and the fifth year flagship liberty has flown a mission for this select group of veterans. American Airlines claims to have a special place in the company’s heart for Veterans, especially since 60% of their pilots and approximately 10% of all of their employees are veterans.
