Oceania Cruises is going adults only and becomes one of just a small club of cruise lines which only allow guests 18 and over aboard. In a decision that came without notice, Oceania will no longer accept children on any new reservations.
The cruise line’s typical customer is 55 or older, and the line does not offer any onboard experiences for children. Oceania is often kid free today, but this will cement the policy going forward.
The adults-only rule took effect Jan. 7 for all new bookings and is one of a series of changes the line has rolled out in the last year. Over the last year year we have seen a lot of rebranding at Oceania. Most recently it is trying to reintroduce themselves a luxury rather than upper premium.
All existing reservations made prior to January 7, 2026, that include travelers under the age of 18, will be fully honored, ensuring a seamless and considerate transition for valued guests.
Adult only: Viking, Virgin and Oceania
Currently there are just two other ocean cruise lines are Adults only: Viking and Virgin Voyages. Many cruise lines are mostly adult only, especially in the premium luxury space. As Seabourn, Silversea, Scenic, Emerald and Ponant’s price point, its rare to see children on board. There’s no programing for them and family’s tend to go elsewhere in order to keep their kids entertained.
Virgin offers a more lively atmosphere, on larger ships with more than 2,700 guests. Virgin prides itself on modern entertainment and its signature Scarlet Night party. Basically a red dress party.
If there’s overlap in cliental, it’s likely between clients on Oceania on Viking. Both in the size of the ships and average age of cliental. Both companies ships hold between 900-1200 passengers and focus primary on the 55+ community.
Bottom Line
Oceania is looking to refresh it’s brand imagine and is rolling out kid-free sailings going forward. The change also distinguishes Oceania from its sister brand, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, which offers children’s programming on some voyages. Oceania’s adults-only restriction solidifies that distinction and makes them unique in the luxury cruising space. Going forward immediately, only guests over 18 can book a trip on Oceania Cruises.
