Qatar Airlines has done it again and for the second year running has been named the Airline of the Year in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards!
The Doha-based carrier retained the coveted title of Airline of the Year 2012 and notched up two further awards – Best Airline in the Middle East for the seventh consecutive year and the Best Airline Staff Service award in the Middle East.
Qatar Airways is much smaller than the Middle Eastern giant Emirates, with only 109 aircraft. Yet despite this, QR has distinguished itself as an award winning 5 star airline flying from its Doha hub to over 117 business and leisure destinations on all 6 inhabited continents. To win this award two years in a row was not an easy fight, but after over 18 million business and leisure air travelers from more than 100 countries were polled, Qatar Airways come out on top again!
Qatar airways has been busy growing and has over 250 aircrafts on orders including new state of the art planes such as the B787, B777, A350, A380 and even smaller A320s. The airline has added a number of destinations this year, including Perth, Zagreb, and Tbilisi and has a number of new destinations still planned across the world for 2012 and 2013.
Akbar Al Baker, the CEO stated:
“Qatar Airways set out on a mission 15 years ago when we launched to be the world’s best airline and spread the airline’s quality brand to all corners of the world.
This is clearly evident, as even
Skytrax Chief Executive Officer Edward Plaisted said: “To win the Airline of the Year award for a second successive year is a remarkable achievement for Qatar Airways, and a clear recognition of the continued efforts by Qatar Airways’ management and staff to be the world’s best airline.

I tip my hat to Qatar Airways. It’s saddens me that United Miles will no longer be redeemable on this true world class airline!
