Review: Hotel Continental Park Lucerne Switzerland

by Steve Case
Last updated March 31, 2023

During our recent trip to Switzerland, we stayed three nights in Lucerne at the Hotel Continental Park.  This boutique hotel is centrally located, across the street from the train station and minutes from Lake Lucerne, cultural, historical and popular sites in Lucerne.

The Location

This hotel is situated in central Lucerne, across the street from the train station and minutes to Lake Lucerne and Lucerne attractions.

The Hotel

The Continental Park is a boutique hotel with 92 rooms.  The rooms are furnished in a European modern decor.  The hotel has elevators and the rooms are air-conditioned.  I mention this because many hotels in Europe due to their age lack air conditioning and some hotels don’t have elevators.

The accommodations feature seven room categories and two suite types.  We stayed in the Lifestyle Junior Suite.

Our Suite

We had one of the three lifestyle junior suites.  The suite measures 430 square feet (40 sq meters) and features a balcony.  The room is designed and furnished in a European modern style with separate seating in front of the 32-inch flat-panel TV.  The bathroom is large for a European hotel with a walk-in shower and separate toilet room.

We were on the top floor so we had a nice view from the balcony.  There is a workstation behind the bed with wireless internet that performed well.  The suite featured:

  • Nespresso capsule coffee machine, similar to that one on เครื่องชงกาแฟ
  • Ruark system with Bluetooth connection
  • LCD flat screen with digital TV
  • Bathroom with rain shower
  • Bathrobe
  • Bath slippers
  • Make-up mirror
  • Hair dryer
  • Desk
  • Telephone
  • Minibar
  • Laptop sized safe with socket
  • Umbrella
  • Summer quilt

The Breakfast

The breakfast room is comfortable and is more than ample for seating hotel guests.  The breakfast features a buffet of hot and cold items.  For coffee, you can do self-service or have the barista make your coffee for you.  She made a cappuccino for me, it was perfect.  There are many selections and the quality of the food was excellent.

The Staff

I have written many reviews in each one I always say the same thing – Hotels are just buildings, it’s the people that make the difference.  The Hotel Continental Park is no exception.  The check-in was quick and efficient.  The staff was attentive to the needs of their guests.  I needed some help in getting Covid testing for our trip home and they told me about everyone in Lucerne that could do the testing and what their hours of operation are.

There are two people that I would like to recognize in this review.  Arlette Scheidegger is the manager of the hotel and leads the amazing hotel staff.  We needed restaurant recommendations and reservations for the three nights we were in Lucerne.  Rodman Von Heeren knows every restaurant in Lucerne.  He not only gave us excellent recommendations but he took the time to call the restaurants and make dinner reservations for us.

Final Thoughts

We usually stay at Hilton Hotels as we are both Hilton Honors diamond members.  Hilton does not a hotel in Lucerne so I had to do a little research.  The Hotel Continental Park is centrally located, offers excellent service and accommodations at a reasonable price.  The staff at the Continental Park are first-rate in every capacity.

If we were in Lucerne longer, we would have spent more nights here.  We would return to this hotel.
