Flying Alaska Airlines This Month? Share Your Advice for a $50 Gift Card

by Scott Mackenzie
Last updated August 12, 2019

It’s no secret I enjoy flying with Alaska Airlines. I spent the first several years in Seattle still loyal to United, which I grew up with in the San Francisco Bay Area. But eventually Alaska’s customer service grew on me, and I enjoyed finding so many cool ways to redeem miles and use my elite status. Even though I’m “only” a MVP Gold member, I still feel more rewarded than I ever was as a United Premier 1K.

So it’s fun when, time to time, Alaska reaches out to ask if I would help spread the word. I’ve written numerous articles for their blog. Over time some have been adapted for their in-flight magazine. But now I’ve finally had the chance to write a dedicated 4-page spread for Alaska Beyond magazine.

Be sure to check it out in your seat back pocket on your next flight with Alaska Airlines during the month of August. Megan is always on my case to read more to Alex, so that’s exactly what I’ll be doing on our flight to San Diego. (In first class, no less. This baby has style!) If you aren’t traveling with Alaska, you can also read the article online. Look for pages 27-33.

I tried to fit as many tips and tricks as I could into 2,000 words while limiting myself to the priorities of Alaska’s marketing team. But I want to hear from you, because I know there are lots of other Alaska Mileage Plan fans out there. Share your favorite advice when earning or redeeming Alaska miles in the comments, and I’ll pick one person to get a $50 gift card. Or, just share your favorite customer service experience. Post your comment by 11:59 PM Pacific Time on August 8, and I’ll announce the winner on Friday, August 9.

Update: I may be a little behind on announcing the winner, but here it is. I used Google’s random number generator to pick a number between 1 and 28 (there are 29 comments, including one of my own). The result is 11. Counting down 11 comments, we find Andrew, so I’ll be reaching out to him to send him a gift card. Thanks to everyone for sharing your tips on earning and redeeming with Alaska Mileage Plan!
