Singapore Airlines Suites on the A380: Initial Impressions

I just got off what might be the best flight I’ve ever taken. Singapore Airlines Suites Class is widely considered to be the best product available for commercial flyers in terms of both hard (seat) and soft (service) products, and boy it did not disappoint.

I flew from LAX-NRT-SIN in Suites and it was fantastic. The Suite is extremely spacious and the seat is huge and very comfortable. The TV could stand to be bigger, but again every airplane TV seems that way after flying Asiana’s A380 Suite.

The food was fantastic as well. I opted not to use the “Book the Cook” service and instead went for the Japanese set meal, which was five courses of pure deliciousness. I’m not a big seafood guy, but I managed to eat both halibut and salmon in this meal because they were so good. My mom would be shocked to hear I even tried those two, let alone finished them!

The bed is a separate piece from the seat that folds down from the wall behind. It’s not particularly wide – in fact I think the old Singapore Airlines First Class seat/bed is wider – but it was extremely comfortable.

But you know what made this flight one of the best? It was the flight crew. Singapore Airlines is known to have amazing flight attendants and I’ve written about how personable they are in my previous reviews of Singapore A380 Business Class and even the regional Business Class from Singapore to Bangkok. They’re known to be friendly, proactive, and to put it bluntly they’re there to make you as comfortable as possible without you even having to ask.

The crew on my flight did exactly that on my flight. Elias, Paynee, and Paul were the best flight crew I’ve ever had. I never had to ask for a drink – they asked me what I wanted to have. I didn’t have to ask to have my bed made – they asked me if I wanted it made. Late in the flight after waking up I was a bit hungry, but I didn’t have to ask for a snack – they asked me if I wanted something to eat as soon as I got up.

I’ve flown Singapore Airlines since I was a kid because I have some relatives in Singapore. I always recognized how much better their Economy cabins were than others, but in Business and First/Suites it’s the service that really makes Singapore Airlines my favorite airline. You simply don’t get this level of attention, or anywhere near it, from other airlines.

I’ll have my full review written in the next couple of weeks, but honestly…don’t put off booking Singapore Airlines Suites like I did for so long. Just do it…you won’t regret it!

  1. I agree Singapore Air is great but one certainly pays for it. Singapore Air, in any class, is usually the most expensive fare between two cities, and usually by a large margin.

When I win the lottery, I’ll certainly take Singapore Air for all my flights.
