Most people that know me know I’m a usually upbeat person, and am often smiling. We’ll see how long that lasts. There have been storms messing up travel in the midwest, and Chicago in particular. I was in Philadelphia earlier this week, and was supposed to fly home last evening, to sleep and repack. Then this morning I was scheduled to head to Las Vegas for a conference.
Yesterday, my original Philadelphia to Chicago United Express flight was delayed. I got rebooked on an earlier mainline flight. That flight ultimately was 5 hours delayed, causing me to miss the last flight to Milwaukee. That often delayed flight of course ran on time last night. As Murphy’s law dictates, it’s delayed when I want it to go home, and on time when I’m hoping to make a tight connection. I made it on to the last bus with about 2 minutes to spare from O’Hare to Milwaukee after a run to the Bus/Shuttle center, so I did make it home and I was able to repack for Las Vegas and get a little sleep in my bed at home.
This morning, I was routing from Milwaukee to Cleveland to Houston to Las Vegas. Crazy, but it was a cheap routing and I’m happy for the extra miles. Unfortunately the 6am departure was delayed, so I missed my too-short connection in Cleveland and confirmed first class seat onward to Houston was gone when I arrived. I was automatically rebooked on a flight in 12 hours, CLE-ORD-LAS, but I don’t want to wait that long, especially not to go back to O’Hare, since there are still suffering from the storm.
So far in trying to fix this, I’ve had no luck with the United 1K elite line, and the vaunted (tic) United Twitter team hasn’t been very responsive. Fortunately, the lovely agents in the Cleveland United club have been great. To be fair, the Twitter team did reply, but after the Club agents had started working their magic, so they said they would let the airport agents handle it.
As of now, I’m doing a sCO hub tour, connecting in Newark and Houston, but hopefully it gets me to Las Vegas tonight, even though my evening commitments will be missed. At least there will be a nice mileage bonus. Traveling on Thursday with full flights and following a stormy day leaves little wiggle room.
I’m still smiling, but at some point the 45 minutes of sleep I got last night will catch up with me then all bets are off.
