Southwest Airlines Rapid Reward Refer a Friend Bonus

by Rocky Horan
Last updated January 22, 2019

Everyone has a Frequent Flyer account right? Think again! Many Americans are flying every day without a frequent flyer account and do not understand the grand benefits that come with earning and burning points. No fret though, this is where you and I come to the rescue and introduce our friends to the world of frequent flying and “hacking”. With that, Southwest is helping out new flyers and those who recommend them by giving newbies 250 Rapid Reward points and the referrer 500 Rapid Reward Points!

You already know we’re about spreading the love. Now we want to reward you for doing the same. Invite your friends to join Rapid Rewards® by June 2, 2015, and we’ll return the favor with 500 bonus points for each friend that enrolls, up to 2,000 points. We’ll even give them a 250-point bonus for signing up.

All you have to do is enter their email, first and last names, and we’ll take care of the rest.

The best part about this promotion is neither you nor the person you refer actually has to fly to get the points! All they have to do is follow the link emailed to them via the Rapid Reward referral page and you will both earn bonus points! This promotion is valid April 29, 2015 and June 2, 2015.

How much is 250 Rapid Rewards points? That depends on the flight and the reward flight chosen. As Southwest Airline has continued to make their program more complex, each rapid reward point is now worth 1.25-1.7 cents each. Meaning 250 points for a new flyer is about $3.07 to $4.25 worth of airfare and a measly $6.14 to $8.50 for each referral with a maximum value of $34 of free flights when 4 friends sign up under you.

Although the referral bonus isn’t amazing, and it is targeted, meaning you had to receive the email from Southwest to refer friends, free points are free points and if you can earn 2000 points towards a future flight with less than 5 minutes of work. That 5 minutes of effort is totally worth it to me! If you need a referral to Southwest Rapid Rewards feel free to email me directly at rocky@upgrd.com and I’ll send you the referral link!
