The details of Starwood’s summer 2017 promotion have recently been announced. The promotion is called SPG Take Three and offers the opportunity to earn double or triple Starpoints on your SPG stays.
In order to be eligible for bonus points, you will need to register on the promotion page by August 30, 2017. Eligible stays must be between May 27 and September 4, 2017.
You can earn up to triple SPG points on your stays. The day of the week will determine how many points you earn; weekdays earn double points on stays of any length while weekends earn triple points if your stay is at least two nights. In order to count as a weekend stay, the stay must include a Friday or Saturday.
Is SPG Take Three a Good Deal?
SPG normally awards 2 SPG points per dollar spent to base-level members (non-elites), so this promotion gives you the ability to earn 2 additional SPG points per dollar spent. I value SPG points around 2 cents each, so this promotion represents around 4% additional back on my SPG hotel stays.
SPG points can also be transferred to Marriott at a 1:3 ratio, so this bonus could mean that you could have 6 Marriott points for every dollar spent at SPG hotels.
Marriott’s summer promotion is offering up to 4,000 bonus Marriott points per stay starting with your second stay, though most people will only earn 2,000 bonus Marriott points per stay. Assuming your average stay is less than $1,000 and that you have more than one stay, you will be able to earn many more points by participating in Marriott’s promotion. Marriott points can be transferred back to SPG as well.
I won’t be going out of my way to stay at an SPG property because of SPG Take Three, but it’s still a good idea to register just in case a stay comes up.
