Since 2015 Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) and Uber have partnered to provide riders with Starwood points for each dollar spent on rides. The partnership has been a great way for Uber riders to earn additional and valuable SPG points for choosing Uber over Lyft. There was the requirement that one SPG night was required before points could be earned each year, but even an award night counted towards the requirement. Now, two years later SPG and Uber are breaking up!
Current Uber SPG Program
There has been some changes to the SPG Uber partnership since its inception. Under the current program riders who stay at least one night at a qualifying SPG property earn 1 Starpoint for every $2 spent on Uber. During stays at qualifying hotels and resorts, riders using Uber earn 2 Starpoints for every $1. The SPG and Uber partnership did have a cap on the number of points earned. Riders could only earn points on the first $10,000 spent with Uber each year.
I have earned hundreds, if not thousands of points by using Uber over the years. Although I do not earn hundreds of points for each ride, the points do add up over time.
SPG and Uber Partnership Ends
On December 17, 2017 Uber and SPG will terminate their partnership. Rides will continue to earn points at the current rates through December 17, 2017 at 11:59pm EST. All rides after December 17 will no longer earn Starpoints.
Earn Other Points
Uber riders will continue to earn 2x Amex Membership Rewards when paying with a qualifying American Express Card. Yet if hotel points are what you are looking for while in transit, this option is dead.
