For months now, myself and many other travelers have been asking the TSA when will the 8th largest city in America, San Diego, get TSA Pre check. Finally, we have an answer: Soon!
Since I started flying out of San Diego International Airport, I have been groped, searched, patted down, and have had my 4th amendment right violated on almost a weekly basis. With each passing, I always ask, “When will San Diego get Pre-Check?” For the first few months, most officers just shrugged and said, we will know when you know, but with time the officers started recognizing me and making jokes with me as they felt me up like two people do after a good date(of course without the dinner!) Yet despite the jokes and the weekly conversation, their answer never really changed.
On many occasions when passing through security over the last several months, many officers have hinted that TSA Pre Check will come to SAN once the airport remodel is done (slated for Summer 2013). The reason why the airport does not have it now is due to space constraints; at least that is what the officers have been telling me. With Delta, United, US Airways and American ALL flying from T2, there is NO reason why San Diego should not already have the program, but then again, there is the space issue.
Thankfully, this week San Diego opened a new expanded security check area at T2 West. The new area is just west of the previous check point and is 29,000 square ft.! The new Terminal 2 west check point now has room for 12 security lanes, whereas the previous check point was only 5,000 square ft. and had 6 security lanes crammed into the tiny space!
With a security screening area almost 6 times larger there is NO reason why the airlines can claim it’s a space issue! I just hope now, TSA will actually bed introduce at my hometown airport. I’m sick of my pat downs!
