United Airlines has lagged far behind other airlines when it comes to Social Media, especially twitter. While American Air, Alaska, JetBlue, Delta and others have taken a liking to tweeting and can reroute you, check upgrades for you, and everything else via Twitter, United’s twitter account has basically been used for random announcements and advertising. United Social Media has been limited to third party applications, they use to take part in TopGuest promotion a few months ago and are now participating in the BCKSTGR social media application, however when it comes to tweeting United is miles behind the competition.
Despite United tweets normally falling on dumb ears, I was delightfully surprised last week when I tweeted to United and they actually responded! I have probably tweeted at least 100 times to @United about one thing or another or to tag them in a post and never a word back from them! Yet last week that all changed!
United responded to me at 1150 PM PST! Who is watching Twitter at that time is beyond me, but I’m glad to see that United is finally stepping up their tweets! I hope this wasn’t a fluke and they keep it up!
It seems as though I am not the only one who has started to hear back from United on Twitter. Hack My Trip Blogger recently had United respond and direct messaged him on a recent travel fiasco. This inclines me to believe that when United responded to me it wasn’t just a fluke and United is stepping up their Social media game! I welcome it and say Game On!
