Marriott MegaBonus Unlock More has finally been revealed and we are seeing a semi generous offer from Marriott. The Marriott Rewards MegaBonus “unlock more” initially seemed like a poorly executed promotion, as many people, including myself completed two stays at Marriott in Mid-September with no other promotion available.
Even when MegaBonus launched, Marriott Rewards on Twitter did not know what the “unlock more” included. Yet, as of yesterday, to my surprise and no announcement, a new bonus is available in my promotion for future stays.
What is MegaBonus Unlock More?
For me, the MegaBonus Unlock More promotion is 10,000 points after five stays. In addition, each stay after five stays earns 1,000 bonus points. This really works out to a bonus of 2,000 points per stay for the five additional stays. Of course, this is dependent on me completing five stays before January 15, 2018.
Other “Unlock More” bonus are different and depend on membership level. On Flytertalk, one member reports only being offered 2,000 points after one more stay. That member has no status.
Per customer service, all stays count towards the unlock more promotion. It is retroactive to September 15. Therefore, the unlock more is really stay seven times and earn a free night at a category 1-5 hotel plus 10,000 points. Check your promotion page and sign up for this promotion ASAP.
If you have a different bonus please share it below int he comments.
This MegaBonus Is a Flop
Overall, I would argue that this MegaBonus is a complete flop and I would not chase after the additional 10,000 points. Marriott owns Starwood, and the SPG Fall/winter promotion is MUCH better than Marriott. SPG is offering 1,000 Starwood points per stay or 500 points at lower end brands Aloft, Element, and Four Points. In addition, 10,000 points after 25 stays! SPG points transfer to Marriott at rate of 3:1. This means a stay at a SPG hotel earns 1,500-3,000 points, upwards of 50%-200% more than a stay at a Marriott a brand during this promotional period!
If one stays 25 times at a Marriott hotel, their maximum return on MegaBonus points would be a free night certificate (valued 25,000 points at max) and 23,000 points. Or a maximum of 48,000 Marriott points. The same 25 nights at SPG would equate to 35,000 SPG points or 105,000 Marriott points after transferring them!
Why stay at Marriott when your status is equal at SPG and you can earn more points! Sleep wisely folks! Marriott is burning their own members whereas SPG continues to be the superior rewards program!
