Its a good problem to have; 3 free nights at any Starwood property in category 1-6.
I’m asking you, dear reader, for suggestions for where to go.
Starwood tends to be my primary hotel chain. I have a lot of stays in cities for my business travel, and Starwood’s reach works for me. They also have a lot of properties in places I want to stay on my leisure travels. I’ve even achieved Lifetime Gold status. Despite some occasional annoyance with their room upgrade policy, I have been pretty happy with the benefits Starwood provides. Plus, on occasion they surprise me with some extra bonuses.
A few years back they sent gifts to elite members who re-qualified. These are beyond the standard published benefits of the program. I picked up a nice coffee table book showing off some of their properties. Recently, I had seen a thread on flyertalk awarding some free nights (and chocolates!) for guests that stayed in all 9 Starwood brands in 2012. I had thought I visited all of their brands last year (see below for my accounting), but I still didn’t get this offer. To my knowledge, this wasn’t offically announced. From that thread, people seem to be trying to get to all brands in 2013, but of course there is no guarantee that this will return next year. It is hard to complain about a free bonus, but I was a little confused why I hadn’t received it.
Finally, I found this package waiting in my room in a recent stay at the Westin San Francisco Airport.
As always, I want to try to maximize the return on this promotion. I pulled up the list of category 6 properties from the SPG website. I saw some gems, including some hotels I really liked in previous stays, including the W Hong Kong, the Westin Europa and Regina in Venice, and the St. Regis Punta Mita. There are plenty of other nice places in lower categories, but potentially saving 75,000 SPG points is an awesome deal. Having just returned from my Maldives trip, I don’t have any trips booked, but we are certainly planning on more fun trips this year and open to suggestions for how to utilize this gift.
Where do you think we should go?
