Why I Fly Virgin America to Hawaii

by Rocky Horan
Last updated January 3, 2019

There are a lot of choices when you fly to the Hawaiian islands, but there is only one airline that will get your to Hawaii in true style, and that is Virgin America! Virgin America prides itself in making flying fun again, and its brand new A320s are among the best ways to get to the Hawaiian Islands from both Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Why I choose to fly Virgin America to Hawaii.

Power at Every Seat

No old clunkers at Virgin America! Every Virgin plane offers power ports at every seat to keep your gadgets juiced up for the entire flight. Never go without power on any Virgin America flight and keep you laptop, ipads, phones and more powered up the entire time.

On Demand Ordering

There’s no need to wait until the flight attendants come down the aisles with bulky carts, as the Virgin America Red entertainment system makes ordering snacks and beverages as easy as a touch of a button. It’s basically online shopping on your seat screen! Want a soda or some water, just request it for free! Or dive in to some tasty snacks or Alcohol beverages and just swipe your credit card! You can even start a tab!

 True Three Class Service

Virgin America is the only airline with three classes of service. First, Main Cabin Select, and Main Cabin. Although Main Cabin Select is just an economy class seat with more leg room, Main Cabin Select offers unlimited free snacks and beverages—including booze! In addition, First Class offers menus, full meal service, and specialty cocktails designed just for the Hawaiian Island flights! In addition, free upgrades to Main Cabin Select are available for Virgin Elites!

The Best Inflight Snacks and Drinks

On our flights to/from Hawaii, Virgin America guests can enjoy specialty cocktails including POG (Passion-Orange-Guava) mimosas and in First Class, Makena rum cocktails. Named after the beach in Maui, the Makena cockail was created by Bryana B., a Virgin America InFlight Teammate, and contains POG juice, rum, club soda and grenadine served over fresh ice and finished with a fresh lime. We also offer Hawaiian-inspired meals in First Class with locally cured and smoked Marlin, lemon pepper Mahi Mahi and Roselani Pauwela Sunrise Ice Cream (think Dreamsicle with Maui pineapple chunks). All of Virgin America menus are updated quarterly using an assortment of sustainable and fresh ingredients, including local fruits and vegetables, premium meats and artisan breads. The airline’s focus on a fresh, diverse range of menu options also helped the airline capture the “Best Domestic Airline for Food” award in the Travel + Leisure 2014 and 2015 World’s Best Awards as well being recognized for “Notable In-Flight Dining” in SAVEUR Culinary Travel Awards for both Main Cabin and First Class. Virgin America was also recognized in 2015 by the Diet Detective for having the “healthiest food in the air.”

Mood Lighting

Ready, Set, Fly! Virgin America gets you ready for the tropics by setting the mood in the cabin with blue, pink, and red mood lighting! White light is blasphemy when cruising the skies with Virgin America!

Best in Class Leg Room

Virgin America offers 32 inches of leg room in the Main Cabin, 38 inches in Main Cabin Select, and an amazing 55 inches in First class! This is an inch more of leg room in the economy class cabin verse their competition and 4-6 more inches more in Main Cabin Select. Furthermore, no other airlines offers a first class cabin that is more spacious on west coast to Hawaii routes! Virgin America has the best First Class Seat when flying from the West Coast to Hawaii

Tons of leg room in the main cabin- Virgin America does not cramp your style!

I flew to Honolulu and back last week on Virgin America and must say the flight was absolutely fantastic! See my main cabin review of Virgin America’s innagural flight to Honolulu, Hawaii. Stop waiting, plan your Hawaiian escape now, and get to Hawaii on America’s swankest airline–Virgin America!
