Win a Trip to Maui and $20,000 from Hertz!

by Scott Mackenzie
Last updated July 2, 2019

I don’t rent a car often enough to be truly loyal to a single chain, but I do make a point to visit Hawaii every year. I was a bit surprised to see the details for the new Hertz Hawaiian Sweepstakes. They seem …too generous.

The winner of the sweepstakes will receive:

  • Round-trip first class transportation for four
  • Seven days/six nights at a five-star resort
  • Credit toward excursions
  • $20,000 in spending cash
  • Luxury car rental from Hertz

Now, I will say that I try to fly first class when I can. I also like a nice hotel, and after my last disappointing rental I think I’ll be taking a closer look at Hertz’s Prestige collection on my next trip. (Plus, all the car rentals have just moved to a new consolidated garage facility. Good bye to 34 years of taking an overcrowded shuttle bus!)

But $20,000 in spending cash? I’m not even sure I know how to spend that much on Maui. I could SCUBA every day for $2,000. Even my thirst for Mai Tais won’t make a dent. Maybe I can finally convince my wife to get that giant carved tiki mask and put it in our living room? A koa dining table from Martin & MacArthur seems more likely.

Every member of Hertz Gold Plus Rewards gets two free entries, and signing up is free. In addition, you can get one entry for every rental through August 31, 2019. More details are on the sweepstakes landing page.

Signing up for a car rental loyalty program is more important than it might seem since most hotel and airline programs are focused on the points. I don’t rent enough to earn a lot of points and get free rentals. I still enroll in order to avoid the long lines at check-in and to keep my preferences on file. I recommend you take the time to sign up for Hertz Gold Plus Rewards and get two free entries at the same time!
