Marriott is holding a 1,000 Nights of Summer sweepstakes to promote its co-branded credit card with Chase. Although I’m indifferent on the card, the sweepstakes is easy to enter. Just enter your name and address by June 30 for your chance to win.
The winner will be announced around July 15, and the certificate may not be delivered for 6-8 weeks after that, so the name is a bit of a misnomer. I think you’ll be lucky to use this free night for a summer vacation. Even so, you can redeem the free night at any Category 1-9 hotel, excluding The Ritz-Carlton properties.
A contest with a generous prize and that’s easy to enter will also attract an unusually large crowd of entrants. I say go for it, but I plan to be disappointed as I am by most contests. Also don’t forget that redeeming your free night will probably mean paying to extend the stay for at least a weekend. Hopefully you have enough Marriott Rewards points in the bank. Cardmembers could use one of the free Category 1-5 nights that are issued each year.
