You Have Equal Chance of Being Killed by the TSA or Terrorists

by Scott Mackenzie
Last updated November 28, 2017

Hat tip to Gary at View from the Wing for sharing this delightful infographic on the successes (or lack thereof) of the Transportation Security Administration. I’m not normally a fan of infographics, but this one actually shares some useful and interesting facts.

I particularly like that the odds of dying from an act of terrorism and dying from cancer due to a TSA backscatter scan are the same: approximately 1 in 30 million. It just goes to show that people pay more attention to a lot of deaths happening at once than a few deaths scattered here and there. Is security important? Of course. But I don’t think the current system is actually doing much to make us safer.
