JetBlue (B6) is expanding their partnerships again with foreign airlines and are hopping to be able to profit from acting as a feeder carrier for the new Japan Airline (JAL) flight to and from Boston’s Logan international airport and from JAL’s existing flight from JFK to Tokyo’s Narita airport.
On April 14, JetBlue and JAL announced a new interline agreement allowing B6 and JAL customers the ability book tickets for combined travel on JetBlue and Japan Airlines through New York John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). However starting April 22, 2012, this interline agreement will expand to a codeshare and JAL will place their airline code, JL, on a number of B6 routes operating out of JFK and Boston.
In Boston, JetBlue is the largest air carrier with 100 daily flights to 44 cities and the partnership is only natural for JAL as they launch new service to BOS on April 22, the same day the codeshare is inaugurated. The JL code will be added to a number of JetBlue flights and the midday arrival of the JAL flight into Boston is time perfectly for mid-day arrival and departure times throughout the North Eastern seaboard and Florida on B6.
Similarly, in NYC, JetBlue will offer easy connections for JAL passengers on the East Coast and throughout Florida and B6 passengers will easily be able to connect from any of JetBlue’s destinations and continue onward to Japan and many other destinations throughout Asia.
At this time, there has been no announcement made on if JetBlue TrueBlue points or JAL MileBank miles will be able to be earned or redeemed on either airlines, however if this partnership turns into anything like the AA/B6 partnership, points/miles will probably be able to be earned on codeshare routes. Yet note, the B6 code is NOT being added to the JAL flights between the US and
Japan.
