You Can Now Transfer Virgin Elevate Points to Alaska Mileage Plan

by Scott Mackenzie
Last updated August 23, 2018

GamblingMan shared a link on Twitter this morning that shows how members of Virgin America’s Elevate program can finally transfer points to Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan. Remember that you’ll get a 30% bonus when you transfer: 1,000 points yield 1,300 miles.

It’s a great value in many cases since Alaska Airlines has some inexpensive awards on its own flights and many partners. Domestic flights now start at just 5,000 miles one-way, depending on distance. And after competitors like American Airlines raised their redemption prices for business and first class awards (just one example), Alaska’s program looks like a relative bargain.

Personally, I transferred 60,000 Starpoints from SPG to Virgin America Elevate, getting a 20% bonus for a total of 75,000 Elevate points. Now I can convert them to Mileage Plan and get 97,500 Alaska Miles. The window to transfer Starpoints to Elevate has already closed, but some of you who already have Elevate points might want to consider a transfer.

Just remember that program partners are different between Elevate and Mileage Plan. If you want to continue taking advantage of Elevate’s redemption rules and partnerships, by all means put off the transfer until the last minute.
