Review: South African Airways Business Lounge, JNB International Terminal

by Kevin Hanson
Last updated March 23, 2019

I’ll keep the text of this blog post rather short. I thought people might be interested to see a quick tour of the South African Airways Business Class Lounge at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Terminal. My first impression of the lounge is that it was incredibly clean, sleek, and large. Even during peak hours, walking down the primary hallway, there were plenty of seats available.

If you keep walking down that large hallway to the right, you’ll walk past the smoker’s lounge, for those who prefer their lungs to be of the darker variety.

Continue down, and you’ll eventually pass two distinct areas. One is specifically designed for watching TV. They call this the Audio Video Lounge. The other is a room for kids to play in.

When you get to the end of the hallway, there are showers that you can use. These came in handy in between our LHR-JNB flight and the one to MRU. I found the showers to be extremely clean, and I prefer them over the showers in the LHR Star Alliance Lounge.

After showering, if you head back the way you came, but hook right, you’ll come to the main seating area, which is a very large, open space.

The bar is just off to the side. We were there in the morning so I didn’t get a chance to see the afternoon snack spread, but the morning snacks were definitely on the weaker side.

There is, of course, free Wi-Fi available, and I found it to be quite speedy, unlike the internet at the United Club in Sao Paulo. If you forgot a computer or don’t feel like pulling it out just to check a couple e-mails, there are also workstations available for you. And if you are feeling collaborative, there’s a giant wooden workstaton table where everyone can plug in and work. It was actually a very nice looking working space.

As promised, I’ll keep the commentary to a minimum, but if you have a layover in Johannesburg, you should feel confident that this lounge is a great place to take a shower, get some work done, and eat some snacks!
