Fly to Asia for Under $500 with the Great Singapore Airlines Getaway

by Scott Mackenzie
Last updated August 9, 2019

For the rest of August, Singapore Airlines is offering discounted fares to destinations around the world, including Asia and Europe, with its Great Singapore Airlines Getaway. These discounts are available in premium economy and business class, as well as economy class on some routes.

The sale only runs through August 31. You must purchase your ticket by that date even though you’ll travel later on. In general your first outbound flight must occur by May 31, 2020 (excluding the winter holiday period), and your trip must be complete by July 31, 2020. So if you have plans to travel to Asia or Europe in the next year, this could be a good opportunity to solidify those plans and book. Be sure to read James’s introduction to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program for some ideas on how to use the miles you’ll earn when flying.

For example, you can get premium economy fares as low as $1,090 round-trip to destinations like Bali and Phuket — and as low as $490 in economy class to Tokyo — when you start in Los Angeles. Here are some other advertised fares:

From Seattle:

  • to Singapore for $640 in economy or $990 in premium economy
  • to Jakarta for $540 in economy or $1,090 in premium economy
  • to Bali for $540 in economy or $1,090 in premium economy

From Houston:

  • to Phuket for $540 in economy or $1,190 in premium economy
  • to Ho Chi Minh City for $540 in economy or $1,190 in premium economy
  • to Bali for $540 in economy or $1,190 in premium economy

From New York:

  • to Frankfurt for $490 in economy, $990 in premium economy, or $1,990 in business
  • to Singapore for $640 in economy or $990 in premium economy
  • to Bangkok for $540 in economy or $1,090 in premium economy

Singapore Airlines is also promoting a bunch of other perks to make your experience more rewarding. I love Singapore, so be sure to take advantage of a stopover (> 24 hours) or layover (< 24 hours) when your flight connects.

Immigration and security are a breeze. It’s one of the easiest places to leave the airport and come back in time for your next departure. You can book a “Singapore Stopover Holiday” package and pay just USD$1 for your first hotel night, or get a free SGD$20 transit voucher from Changi Airport, one of the world’s best airports.
