Alaska Airlines has two very good promotional deals ending today.

Deal #1 – Flash Sale

Every now and then, Alaska Airlines puts on a “Flash Sale” with some great airfares.  These flash sales typically last 24 hours so your window to book is limited.  Alaska Airlines launched this sale to celebrate being named “Best U.S. Airline” by the readers of Conde Nest Traveller in their Readers Choice Awards.  You can reach the Alaska Airlines sale site here. Travel routes and travel dates vary by market.  When you are on the sale site you will:

  • Click on Choose a City to select your departure airport
  • When you find your routing, View Dates to display a calendar of sale fares

Here are some examples of sale fares:

As always, be sure to review the Alaska Airlines terms and conditions that apply to this sale.  One word of caution – the SAVER FARES are basic economy fares, be sure to read the rules for purchasing basic economy fares.

Deal #2 – Bonus on Purchased Miles (May be targeted)

Alaska often runs sales on purchased miles with bonuses of up to 40%.  The bonus structure is keyed to the number of miles purchased and usually works like this:

Buy 10,000 – 19,000 miles, get a 20% bonus
Buy 20,000 – 39,000 miles, get a 30% bonus
Buy 40,000 – 60,000 miles, get a 40% bonus

Here is the link to the bonus miles promotional page.  The bonus offer is increased for up to a 50% bonus.

Buy 10,000 – 19,000 miles, get a 20% bonus
Buy 20,000 – 39,000 miles, get a 35% bonus
Buy 40,000 – 60,000 miles, get a 50% bonus

This offer is purchased through points.com.  This offer may be targeted and is subject to the usual Alaska Airlines terms and conditions for purchasing miles.  Remember that when you purchase airline miles, the purchase is subject to a 7.5% Federal Excise Tax.  Since this offer is paid through points.com, you will not receive bonus miles for using your Alaska Airlines Visa credit card.

My Take on These Offers

I really like the Alaska Airlines mileage plan for several reasons.  Alaska has the only frequent flyer program that is still distance-based.  You will get at least one mile of credit for every mile flown or more depending on which fare code you purchased your ticket on.  They are the “non-alliance” alliance with their unique blend of mileage plan partners.  Flying premium class on international flights is a great use of Alaska Airlines miles.  Here is the current list of Alaska Airlines partners (Note – American Airlines is leaving the partnership on March 1, 2020):

If you are short on miles to redeem the award ticket that you want, this offer is a great way to get those miles to book your award flight and take off.

About Steve Case

Steve is a life-long avgeek and a points and miles player. The photo is from my first premium, international award flight in 2012. That is all it took, I was hooked. I used my airline mile and hotel points to travel well and cheap. I am truly an "out-of-the-box" traveler which has enriched my travel experiences.
