Errors Updating Passport Information on TTP Website

by Brad
Last updated August 9, 2023

Need to update passport information on the Trusted Traveler Program website? My daughter is 5 (my, how time flies), so the passport we got for her as an infant has expired. We renewed her passport without issue, and in fact, it came back to us within a few weeks. Next up, her Global Entry membership has a few months of validity remaining. I went to the TTP website to update the new passport details, and encountered several errors while trying to add the new passport information.

Difficulty updating passport information on TTP Website

Based on past experience, there can be long delays for Global Entry approvals. I also encountered some problems when trying to update passport information. Per this Flyertalk thread, people are also having issues getting new drivers license information updated. Supposedly, existing TTP members can go to a Global Entry enrollment center and update this information without an appointment. In my case, after several days of no luck making updates online, I suddenly was able to complete this process. Persistence paid off, but I’m still clear on what happened. Maybe allowing for more time for the new passport information to populate through various systems?  Some software change that allowed users to edit their information? Not sure, but finally I was able to update this new information on the TTP website.

Once I updated the new passport, I applied to renew her Global Entry membership. There is a significant backlog to review these applications.  In fact, Customs and Border Protection has extended the grace period from 6 months to one year for those awaiting approvals. Members must renew before expiration to take advantage of this, and renewal applications open up a year before expiration. In my daughter’s case, we applied 7 or so months before expiration, and hopefully we won’t have to wait longer than that, but at least there is more time in case delays for review by CBP continue.

Final thoughts

Have you encountered issues like this? I actually called my local enrollment center seeking help. It took a few days for a call back, and by then I had updated the information online. The officer who called said they had checked the system and confirmed the information was updated. Not sure if calling an enrollment center to make these changes is an option. I was pleasantly surprised with how informative the officer was, despite the fact we only traded voice mail messages.  Due to the long processing time for Global Entry renewals, and possible issues updating passport information on the TTP site, my advice is to plan ahead as much as possible.
