Hey, World: Rohan Is Back

by Rohan Anand
Last updated March 29, 2023

No, this is not an April Fool’s Day joke.

This has been planned for awhile, although it only took seven months and self-isolation for me to get my gears in motion. All I can say is, a lot has changed since my last post and a lot will continue to change over the next several months. Quite possibly, in fact, more dramatically and drastically that it ever has before in the history of the world, let alone within the subset world of global travel. Further downstream, the world post-#COVID19 will forever alter the makeup of the players that play such a pivotal role in travel, transport and logistics, and all key stakeholders in between.

It is evident that the global pandemic has transformed the way we live, work, and travel. For a more in-depth look at how logistics services will evolve in a post-COVID world, I recommend checking out this great post to read.

So, since I’ll be around for it, I might as well write about it, too.

I’m really thankful to have the chance to resume my writing. You are part of the inspiration for me to return to blogging, writing, and publishing. This will be fun, and I’m also really touched by the sheer volume of e-mails, notes, tweets, comments, and love that has poured in to my inboxes after I left Travel Codex in 2018 to take on a new role in the industry. I will be responding to as many of those messages as I can over the next several weeks.

Since moving on from the opportunity that I pursued several years ago, for which I’m grateful to have had, I’ve been staying abreast on the developments of the industry and gradually resuming activities that I had in the pipeline previously. One project that has been a huge success was the re-launch of my podcast with Vinay Bhaskara (who has joined the Codex family in the intermediary, which is a huge win). Another one was staying at the TWA Hotel at New York JFK airport on opening day.

I look forward to continuing to reconnect with my love for aviation, travel, writing, and all the people I’ve come to meet, admire, and respect along the way.

I’ll see you guys when I see you. In the meantime, although there’s not a whole lot worth joking about these days, I figured it would be fun to do a #WayBackWednesday to some of my classic AFD posts from yonder year.

And yes, I still remember the comments for haters who loved to throw shade at how “trite” and “immature” they think these posts are. Well, I got news for ya: they weren’t written for you. They were mostly written for me. And by me. So, win/win? <snark>

It already feels good to be back.

I became fan of the jorts and fanny pack bandwagon, and sport a Mustache now. This was taken in Split, Croatia.
I dressed up like Freddie Mercury for Halloween.
I stole SMU Athletics clothing from my friend Seth and he’s never, ever getting them back.
I flew on my first Airbus A350! From Delhi to Munich on Lufthansa.
I celebrated my birthday the same way I do every year: with my college roommate Tommy De (we were born 4 days apart) and here he is feeding me a Wonton in Chicago at Lans Chinese.
I sing a ton of Karaoke now because surely the world isn’t sick enough of my voice yet.
I made a collage of old boarding passes on my coffee table and looked really sad about doing it.
