Update: As of February 27, the lounge is still closed for refurbishments. It was supposed to be completed late last year but that obviously did not happen. Fingers crossed it will be completed by the Summer of 2022.
This will be a very quick post to give you guys an update regarding the status of the American Express Centurion Lounge at LAX. Due to Covid, the American Express Centurion Lounge at LAX is open but only for “grab and go” service. You are still not able to sit and relax in the lounge but if you ask, you can use the restroom. I don’t know how long this will last but our Covid numbers in California have been improving so I’m hoping the lounge will return to its full glory soon.
The American Express Centurion Lounge is located in the Tom Bradley Terminal (TBIT) and can be accessed by any Platinum Cardholder with a valid boarding pass within three hours of departure. And as a reminder, you can easily walk to the international terminal from any of the other terminals via a post-security walkway/shuttle, except from terminal 1 (Southwest). The lounge is currently open with limited hours from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and like I said earlier, for grab-and-go service only. As you enter the lounge and scan your details, you will immediately loop back around to a cart with a limited menu.
You will be handed a box with your selection and then directed out of the lounge. This really is lame but the only positive thing I can say about this is that the international terminal is dead. International travel to LAX is dismal compared to what it used to be so there are actually plenty of tables and seats just outside the lounge for you to sit and enjoy your boxed meal. The boxed meal comes with a wrap, bag of potato chips, dip, orange, cookies and sparkling water. There’s also a selection of coffee/tea if you want it.
For a boxed meal, the food wasn’t bad but nothing about this screams amazing. I would have loved to see some variety or hot meal options.
American Express Centurion Lounge at LAX Bottom Line
This really is a great lounge but due to California’s restrictions, it isn’t something that you need to arrive early or walk 20 mins through the airport for. If you happen to be in the area and want a free meal; sure, by all means. But don’t wake up early for it. Hopefully, the lounge will be open for normal operations soon. Fingers crossed.
