American Airlines New Snack Basket & another New Cookie

by Rocky Horan
Last updated September 19, 2018

American Airlines has launched a new snack basket and another new version of their cookie for passengers sitting in Domestic First Class. The snack basket has been hit or miss depending on who you ask and I still believe the airline could do better. The cookie, meanwhile, has been an utter disaster! When the initial new warmed onboard cookie was launched nearly 10 months ago, it tasted like a piece of warm cardboard and the airline quickly swapped it out after hundreds, if not thousands, of complaints from frequent flyers for a slightly better version. I believe the cookie has now been switched 4 times in less than a year and it still sucks compared the original pre-merger version!

Yet yesterday, news broke that American Airlines would start serving ginnybakes™ cookies to first class passengers. The vegan and gluten free cookies are made for people of all diet types and have already been spotted on some flights. My seatmate on my flight last night told me she had it that afternoon and that the new oatmeal cookie was “to die for!” The businesswire article has been pulled from the internet, but to quote what I can find:

ginnybakes™, creator of outrageously delicious organic, gluten-free, non-GMO and kosher baked goods, has been chosen as the exclusive cookie to be featured on all domestic and a selection of international flights for American Airlines First Class passengers. Starting this month, First Class passengers will be able to enjoy coconut oatmeal bliss ginnyminis inflight.

“We built ginnybakes on a strong foundation of transparency and authenticity with the belief that in order to feel good you have to do good. At ginnybakes, that means starting the day with good intentions, using wholesome, natural ingredients to make delicious snacks that help people lead healthy, balanced lives.”

The new snacks basket includes popcorn, new biscotti, and a new flavor, apple cinnamon, of the fig bar. In my opinion the apple cinnamon tastes the same as the strawberry and the new snack basket is just a slight improvement over the previous options. The updated basket includes nearly all former options including the kettle chips and Milano cookies. The basket featured below has the original nut mixture, the new mixed nuts is an asinine excuse of a snack contain more pretzel sticks than nuts.

I just wish American Airlines would  actually improve the snack basket. Perhaps include a snack of substance, such as a protein bar or at least spoil us with some good chocolate! These would be actually improvements to the snAAck basket! Another enhancement AA should consider is that the snack basket should be available on ALL flights, whether it is an hour flight or 3 hours or longer flight, the snack basket should be offered! Not every first class passenger wants to eat the crAAp food that the #DouggieDiet has bestowed upon first class on flights over 899 miles and the “snack flights” which offer cheese plates or hummus dishes are NOT substantial enough!
