Alaska Airlines First Class offers only one meal option on most flights with the exception of flights to and from Hawaii. The airline is not known for cutting edge culinary options, but then again most airlines in the United States with the exception of maybe Jetblue Mint and Virgin America even try to create culinary excellence inflight. Despite this, Alaska Airlines is the only airline that offers only one meal option, and is always lacking a vegetarian option for none carnivores onboard.
Alaska Airlines launched the Alaska Beyond campaign last year with a focus on Northwest food and beverages, but I am quickly finding out that Alaska Beyond really means Alaska Boring or Alaska Bland!
In the last several months, I have flown the same route between Houston and Seattle and each week I find the same meal option onboard! Chicken Masala when leaving Houston and a Chicken BBQ Sandwich when leaving Seattle. On other morning flights, no matter where I go, Alaska tends to feature a pot roast hash. Although these meals are decent, for vegetarians there are no options in the forward cabin. For the frequent flyers the food gets old and boring fast! I took my observation of being served the same meal to social media, and to my surprise, the Alaska Airlines team admitted the food options rarely change!
I would like to see Alaska Airlines improve their meal service in the forward cabin, and the only way this is going to happen is to voice the concern to Alaska Airlines. I have already done this, but have also decided to start a petition to show Alaska Airlines that several people are bored with the same meal option time and time again and that vegetarians/pescotarians would appreciate a meal option when flying. If Delta, American, United, Jetblue, and Virgin can do it, why can’t Alaska? Please sign my petition and tell Alaska that more options and choices are needed in the forward cabin!
Update March 2017: Alaska Airlines has announced that “By June 2017, Alaska First Class passengers will be able to pre-select meals before they fly.” This gives me hope that Alaska will have meal options on all flights!
