The space shuttle isn’t as big as you think.
But you shouldn’t believe me. Plan you next flight with a long layover at IAD and see for yourself. As Brad mentioned in his visit to the Udvar Hazy Museum it’s just a few minutes from Dulles.
Although admission is free, the mandatory parking is $15 per car.
Once inside, it’s a large facility filled with a range of aircraft. Some notable aircraft include:
- Boeing Dash 80 prototype
- Space Shuttle Discovery
- Enola Gay Bomber
- Pan Am Clipper Cloud Boeing 307
- And more
Additionally you can proceed to the viewing tower where you can see the landings on runway 1/19C and R. After viewing the landings you can proceed down to the sixth level where you can listen to Air Traffic Control operations and learn about airport operations.
And of course, being so close to Dulles, there some’s great plane spotting from the parking lot — weather permitting! Now to the #avgeek pics!
