Review: Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong

by Rocky Horan
Last updated April 19, 2019

The luxurious Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel offers modern amenities with extensive curb appeal located in the heart of Bangkok’s nightlife and shopping districts. Just steps away from high-end shopping, directly on the LTR (elevated train), and near by the famous late night club district and night markets of Si Lom, this hotel is in the ideal location for exploring Bangkok for travelers and businessmen alike and the prices of this hotel will not break the bank.

The polished glass gleams in the distance, set back from the road is a site not to be missed. The 300 yard driveway is decorated with water features and landscaped with natural local greenery. Upon entry, each person is greated by the doorman and senses are consumed by the oversized lobby fully decorated with large crystal chandeliers, lit to a dim level that provides an intimate emotion.

The Renaissance Bangkok is an unforgettable experience from the minute one lay eyes on the building. Staff members in the lobby are extremely professional and helpful and each staff member spoke exceptional English, making the process even easier. All Marriot Gold Elite and above are escorted to the concierge lounge on the 19th floor to check-in. This provides a sequestered setting and spectacular views of the city.

The rooms at this hotel must be among the   most modern, chic rooms I’ve stayed in, in recent years. The state-of-the art rooms offer large plush beds and wall-to-wall windows, providing remarkable views of the vast Bangkok skyline. The rooms offer just about every amenities one can think of, including every cable and wire needed to hook up your personal electronics to the in room surround sound or TV. The large 5 piece vanity bathroom includes an deep soaking separate tub and a shower, both built for two. Translucent walls allow one to relax in the bath and watch TV, or for the voyeur, to spy on their partners; although it can also add to some awkward toilet time! Thankfully, the bathroom is equipped with electronic curtains that fully cover the glass walls when private time is warranted.

The hotel is complete with a number of fine restaurants and bars, all which appeared nice and were full, but I never personally had a chance to visit. My room even had drink certificates for the main bar with a hand written letter addressed to me by name, inviting me by the General Manager to join them for drink. Never before had I received a hand written letter from the GM inviting me to check out the bars or restaurants. The preprinted guest notes are out, meanwhile personal handwritten notes are in! Clearly, this hotel does not overlook any details!

The opportunity was tempting, but after a full dinner in the concierge lounge with one of the most extensive bars I’ve ever seen (I was drinking dirty Hendricks Martini’s and my partner was drinking white Russians) in a concierge lounge, I called it a night. The concierge lounge is fabulous, offering a full breakfast and dinner buffet with both Western and Asian options.

One could live in the hotel and never even see Bangkok if they weren’t careful! The lounge also offers high tea in the afternoon with light snacks and an array of local teas. All of this is complimentary too, a true #DoubleWideDelight. If this isn’t enough, stop by the lounge for free directions and concierge service, the staff members are extremely helpful, friendly and tremendously knowledgeable!

This hotel is truly amazing and deserves to be a 5-star hotel in its entirety, The roof top  partially covered pool is a true treat on the 22nd floor and is a great place to swim, relax, and take in the busy streets of Bangkok far below. Attached to the pool is a full gym, staffed with towel service and even a steam room and dry sauna! The Spa next to the poor offers all the amenities of a full service spa, but also invites hotel guests to a free 20-minute shoulder a neck massage that is top notch!

From the outdoor coffee shop under the LRT  to the roof top pool, the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel is my new favorite hotel in any big city in Asia. As a Marriott Gold member, I’ve never seen a concierge lounges so elegant or so many amenities offered to guests. Staff members are attentive and friendly and the overall vibe was trendy, modern, and chic. If you’re Hip or Elegant, this hotel hits a home run!

This hotel is a category 4 hotel and & requires 20,000 points a night. Room rates can be found as low as $120/night. Either way a redemption or a pay stay here is WORTH IT!
