The Nines hotel located in downtown Portland offers a luxurious refined experience in the heart of downtown Portland. On a recent visit to Portland I was upgraded to what they called a Vice Presidential Suite. I had already booked a one bedroom suite, but this room was much nicer and larger than the one bedroom suite. The upgrade was in part to my Platinum status. The Nines Hotel is part of SPG’s Luxury Collection.
Today that same hotel operates as The Nines, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Portland, part of Marriott Bonvoy rather than the former Starwood Preferred Guest program named here. The Nines Hotel Portland stands at 525 SW Morrison Street inside the historic Meier & Frank Building, across the street from Pioneer Courthouse Square.
The Nines Club Executive Suite
Upon check in, we received the Meier and Frank Suite, room 1241. The room is on the executive floor and the same floor as the lounge.
This room is truly huge! It’s over 1200 square feet! Seriously, it is bigger than my condo! You enter the room into a grand foyer with a over-sized powder room to the left.
Once in the room there is a huge living and dinning room with a wet bar! The room is set up for a party! There’s even Boise speaker surround sound! Everything about the Nines suite is a bit gody!
My visit to the Portland Nines was on a cloudy day, but if it wasn’t cloudy, there is a great view of the mountains from the room. Otherwise the cityscape is nice.
Off of the main room is a TV room and office. The couch turns into a bed for visitors or more guests.
The highlight to the suite is really the King size bedroom and marble bathroom. It also helps the wallpaper is toned down a bit in the bedroom.
The pictures do not do the bathroom justice, It’s honestly the largest hotel bathroom I’ve ever been in!
Overall the room is extremely large and eccentric. It’s probably more than what most people need for a night in Portland. Yet, the room can work great for a family or those looking to live it up for a weekend! I felt like I was in an upper east side apartment, not in downtown Portland!
The Nines Executive Lounge
The Nines Executive lounge offers breakfast every day and a free beer, wine and hors d’oeuvre each evening. The lounge is on the 12th floor, but has no views as it faces the inside courtyard. The lounge is a very small “L” shape and gets very crowded.
The lounge is a great place to grab a quick snack or a free drink, but don’t spend too much time here. It’s to crowded for breakfast and appetizers to really enjoy the space.
The Nines Amenities
The Portland Nines is a luxury hotel in downtown Portland and does not offer a pool or spa. Or at least not that I noticed. The hotel does have a beautiful gym though and a great business center.
That business center is not listed among the hotel’s current amenities, so it may no longer be available. The 24-hour fitness center remains, and the Nines, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Portland, still has no pool or spa.

Final Thoughts
In all honesty I am not a huge fan of luxury hotels. Overall, they feel stuffy. Yet, the Portland Nines offers a high-end experience walking distance to the best Portland has to offer: shopping, bars, strip clubs, and breweries!

The Nines, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Portland, has 331 guestrooms and suites across the upper floors of the historic Meier & Frank Building. Nightly rates float with season and demand the way most Luxury Collection properties do, so the cash price for the Meier & Frank Suite described in this review can vary widely by date. A mandatory Destination Amenity Fee is also charged per night on top of the room rate, and the hotel says it covers a daily $15 food and beverage credit, daily car transportation within a 30-minute distance for up to four guests, tickets to the Portland Art Museum for two guests per stay, a daily two-hour Nines electric bike rental for two guests, and enhanced high-speed internet, per the hotel’s destination amenity fee page. Valet is the only on-site parking option, and as of July 2026 the hotel lists $29 for the first 90 minutes plus $5 per additional hour for short stays, or a flat $67 overnight for standard vehicles and $85 overnight for oversized vehicles. There is no on-site pool or spa, which lines up with this review, though the hotel does maintain a 24-hour fitness center with Precor treadmills, ellipticals, Peloton bikes, and free weights.

Platinum members and above remain eligible for space-available upgrades, but the elite breakfast benefit now arrives as a food and beverage credit at Urban Farmer rather than as the lounge spread described in this review, and the hotel no longer advertises a club or executive lounge on its own site. The only lounge it currently describes is The Living Room, an evening drinks and small-bites space on the atrium level that is open to the public, so the 12th-floor executive lounge covered here may no longer apply.

The Nines sits at 525 SW Morrison Street, inside the landmark Meier & Frank Building, across the street from Pioneer Courthouse Square. The Pearl District and Portland State University are each roughly a mile away, or a 15-to-20-minute walk. The building went up in stages between 1909 and 1932 as the flagship of the Meier & Frank department store, then was converted starting in 2005, with the 331-room hotel opening in late summer 2008.
