Review: JW Marriott Macau

by James Dozer
Last updated December 28, 2019

Known as the largest JW Marriott in Asia, the JW Marriott Macau is a fantastic 5-star hotel and resort located in the Taipa/Cotai area of Macau. The JW Marriott hotel is unique because it’s not a free-standing hotel. Instead, it’s part of five other hotels on the grounds of the Galaxy Resort and Casino. All five hotels (Galaxy Hotel, Ritz Carlton, JW Marriott, Hotel Okura and Banyan Tree) are connected to each other via a network of indoor shops, restaurants and of course, the massive casino.

The hotel complex is located a few minutes away from the Macau Airport and the Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal. To get to the hotel from the airport/ferry terminal, you can hire a taxi for a quick ride to the hotel or take the free hotel shuttle. The shuttle runs every 15 mins from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily. Just look for the Galaxy Hotel shuttle.

Around this area, the JW Marriott is close to other attractions such as the Venetian and Parisian Resorts and Casinos, the Military Museum, Broadway Theatre and the UA Cinema. For foodies, the hotel is within walking distance to Lord Stow’s Bakery, known for its famous Portuguese egg tarts, and Tai Lei Loi Kei, known for its Portuguese pork chop buns.

To get to the old town of Macau (Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul, etc.), you will need to drive as it’s not close by. The taxi ride should take you less than 10 mins (depending on traffic) and a public bus will take you a little bit longer. The bus will cost you 6 MOP each way. Just catch the #26A bus outside the East Square of the resort.

On this trip, I used my points to book a standard Deluxe Room and upon check-in, I was upgraded to a Premier Room (Marriott Bonvoy Gold member). Premier Rooms are slightly larger than Deluxe Rooms and have better views of the resort. Deluxe Rooms only have views of the city.

At 50 square meters, the Premier rooms are quite spacious. Each room is furnished with either a king bed or two double beds, a sitting area and desk. The rooms are beautifully decorated with quality materials, clean colors and soft ambient lighting.

The large floor-to-ceiling windows let in a ton of natural lighting and afford great views of the Macau skyline and resort grounds. This really is an impressive view day or night.

The enclosed bathroom is beautiful with a large sink, soaking tub and a walk-in shower. The rainfall showerheads have the most amazing pressure. It literally feels like you’re standing underneath a waterfall. And the large window into the room can be electronically controlled for privacy.

Aromatherapy Associates bath and body products, shave kits and dental hygiene kits are provided for your use.

Room amenities include an in-room safe, Nespresso machine, mini-fridge, JBL sound dock, slippers and bathrobes.

Other hotel amenities include a fitness center and pool deck. And like I said earlier, it’s also connected to a mall with plenty of shops and food options and the casino.

Guests of the JW Marriott also get complimentary access to the Galaxy Resort Grand Resort Deck. This massive pool complex includes a beach, lazy river, wave pool, water slides and more pools that you can ever use.

Service-wise, all the employees went above and beyond. From the check-in staff and concierge staff to the house cleaning staff and restaurant employees, they were all friendly, helpful and went out of their way to help you.  Complimentary WiFi was provided throughout the Galaxy Resort grounds.

JW Marriott Macau Bottom Line

Overall, I was very impressed with the JW Marriott Macau. This was my first time staying at a JW Marriott hotel and I was really blown away. The hotel is located in a great spot and the services and amenities provided were top notch. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the grounds were fantastic. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
