Review: Hilton Americas Houston Downtown

by James Dozer
Last updated November 17, 2018

The Hilton Americas-Houston is a nice hotel located in the heart of downtown Houston. It’s approximately 30 minutes from Houston Intercontinental Airport and 15 minutes from Houston Hobby Airport (depending on traffic). The hotel is directly connected to the George R. Brown Convention Center via a covered skywalk and is walking distance to the Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and all the shops and restaurants on Downtown Green Street. This hotel is a Hilton Honors category 6 property for award redemptions.

I was in Houston for a conference at the convention center and stayed at the Hilton Americas-Houston from Friday to Sunday. The hotel is large and spacious and the convenience to the convention center can’t be beat. The hotel also makes it convenient to leave the property and see the rest of downtown Houston as well. The hotel offers a free shuttle to any attraction, restaurant, shopping district or anywhere else in the downtown area free of charge. Just call them up afterwards and they can pick you up too. Prefer to just take a taxi? The taxis have a fixed rate of $6.00 for any taxi ride within the downtown Houston area. Uber is cheap too if you want to leave the downtown area.

For this trip, I booked a standard king bedroom. Upon checking-in (as a Hilton Gold), I was upgraded to a king bedroom on the Executive Floor. The Executive Floors are located on floors 19 – 23 and the Executive Lounge is located on the 19th floor.

Just like the rest of the hotel, the rooms are clean and beautifully decorated in typical Hilton décor. There’s a king bed, sitting area, work desk, LCD TV, closet and mini-fridge. Room amenities include a MP3 dock, coffee maker, robes and slippers. My view from room 20023 was a standard city view. Nothing special.

The enclosed bathroom is fairly spacious. There’s a shower/tub combo, toilet and single sink. Bath and body products by Peter Thomas Roth and grooming kits are provided for your use. Tall people rejoice. The shower head is like 7 feet high.

Other hotel amenities include a Spa, fitness center, indoor pool/Jacuzzi and several on-site restaurants. The fitness center is pretty decent for a hotel gym. There are treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, weight machines and a small free weight area with several benches. Hand towels, a water fountain and cold, lavender scented towels were also provided.

There are two business centers for your convenience. There’s a smaller more informal area located in the lobby and a quieter, enclosed space located on the fourth floor with desks, PC computers and a printer/fax/copier machine.

The Executive Lounge is located on the 19th floor. It’s a nice space and offers a complimentary breakfast and evening reception with hors d’oeuvres, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic drinks can be purchased from the bar for a fee. For breakfast, there were hot options such as eggs and oatmeal and continental options such as cereal, fruit and pastries. For the evening reception, you can expect light snacks such as meatballs, egg rolls, pastries and other snacks.

Overall, I had a nice stay here. The hotel is new, modern and comfortable. It’s a really convenient hotel not just for the convention center but for all of downtown Houston as well. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.
