Review: United Polaris Lounge, Los Angeles

by Rocky Horan
Last updated February 7, 2020

The new United Polaris Lounge Los Angeles (LAX) is among the nicest lounges across the Southern California basin. The 12,000 square foot lounge opened in January 2019 to guests and offers premium guests a place to dine, drink, and relax in a luxurious environment, away from the chaotic terminal.

Each day the lounge is open for international business class flyers from 6:45am to 10:15pm. The entrance is conveniently located in Terminal 7 between Gates 73 and 75A.

After taking the elevator the second floor and being credentialed by the staff, it’s time to relax or find a workspace. You enter near the main bar. This is a great place to grab a custom cocktail or beer and relax. Or there’s several other work spaces in the front of the lounge with lovely southwestern views of the taxiways, sunset, and runways.

Throughout the lounge, there is 140 seats, with a variety of seating areas for productivity, privacy, and/or dining. Never worry about powering up as there’s also 272 power outlets and 120 usb ports to keep your devices juiced up.

If you are working on a computer or need a desk, there’s some perfect single seats with desks. For those of you who need to make a call in private, there’s three work stations behind glass.

United Polaris Lounge Dining

For me, the highlight of this lounge was all the dining options. Food options on planes are only so good. In addition, as United has moved to pre-plated meals in Polaris business class, quality has decreased. I would highly recommend eating in the lounge. The lounge offers many options of food choices. These include a self-serve buffet, or made to order restaurant quality dining.

To access the dining room, you first must walk through the buffet. On my visit, I was able to see both the breakfast and lunch offerings as I was there from 10am-noon. There’s really something for everyone!

If you cannot find something on the buffet that looks good, head back to the restaurant. Here there is dedicated wait staff who will make recommendations and even pair a drink to your meal of choice.

The dining room meal options are also extensive and include more desserts too!

You can order anything you want from the bar here. The wine and cocktail list is very extensive for an airport lounge.

Over at the main bar, there’s also a few local beers on draft.

If you’re looking to just hydrate. There’s also a coffee station and infused water throughout the lounge.

Shower and Sleep

For some reason, what I cannot explain, I LOVE taking a shower in airport lounges. Maybe it’s the high end products, the nice shower jets, or just an odd fascination with being clean before and after a flight. I love shower suites! The United Polaris Lounge makes staying clean easy.

Each Polaris shower suite has Sunday and Riley products. In addition to the large fluffy Saks 5th Avenue towels.

There are extra amenities needed if you inquire. Such as razors, toothbrushes, combs, and more. Each Polaris shower suite also includes a toilet, sink, hair dryer, and more.

If you’re on a long layover, the Polaris Lounge is also a great place to sleep. The LAX United Polaris lounge has several day beds with Saks fifth Avenue bedding. The rooms are semi private and each bed has lavender relaxing mist spray, eye shades, and a bottle of water.

United Polaris LAX Final Thoughts

United Airlines did not cut any corners in designing a wonderful place for their premium passengers to relax before or after a long haul flight. The airlines offers these lounges at all their hubs and is truly a cut above any of their competition. No other US airline can say they offer al la carte dining to all business class traveler.

If you’re flying United, always be sure to make time for the Polaris lounge. This lounge is among my favorite in the United States!
