At Frankfurt International Airport, there are no shortages of lounges for business class passengers. Lufthansa alone operates over 10 lounges for their first, business and Star Alliance Gold passengers and in the B concourse, where Air Canada is located, there are three lounges and a Bistro Lounge, for business class passengers to choose from. But in my opinion, Air Canada operates a pretty decent lounge in Frankfurt so there’s no need to lounge hop to another lounge for a better experience.
The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at Frankfurt International Airport is located in the B Concourse of Terminal 1, near gate 43; and the hours of operation are from 6:00 AM to 4:40 PM daily. When you exit the immigration queue, just follow the signs to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge and take the escalator to the third level. The lounge will be located on your left-hand side, just past the outdoor terrace.
Directly behind the reception desk, you will find a business center located on the right-hand side of the lounge. If you find that the lounge is a little too crowded or you just need an emptier space to spread out and work, this is the best place for you as most people will be in the main seating area of the lounge. In the business center, you’ll find several workstations with plenty of table space and universal electrical outlets to charge your devices and fire off those last-minute emails.
In the center of the lounge, you’ll find the dining room and self-serve buffet area. For breakfast, there was a spread of scrambled eggs, bacon, baked beans, fruit, yogurt and a selection of German bread. It wasn’t the most amazing spread by any means but the quality was good and I appreciated the hot items to fill my belly prior to my flight. That being said, I have heard that the lounge attendants don’t do the best job of keeping the lounge clean and the buffet area refreshed later on in the morning, as the lounge gets more crowded, so your experience may vary.
Even during the morning hours, there was a decent selection of wines, prosecco and hard spirits on display; along with two different beers on tap. Again, it’s not the most impressive selection but it’s definitely good enough for you “it’s five o’clock somewhere” people.
For non-alcoholic drinkers, there’s the standard still and sparkling water, juices, sodas, and two espresso machines.
In the dining room, there are three long communal tables located in the center of the lounge and two rows of individual tables located to the left. Universal electrical outlets are conveniently located near all the tables and password-protected WiFi is provided throughout the lounge so you can eat and work from anywhere.
The main seating area is located adjacent to the dining room. Here, you’ll find plenty of seating options to relax with your fellow passengers. In the middle of the room, there is a very striking art display, which gives the room a burst of color and personality. I have to admit that I really like the design décor of this Frankfurt Maple Leaf Lounge. I think it’s modern yet classy and I love the use of lighting and color to add character and style.
In the back of the lounge, you’ll find several semi-private rooms with recliners and personal TVs. There are no doors and the recliners don’t go flat so these aren’t true sleep rooms but they do add an additional layer of privacy if you want to shut your eyes for a bit.
Along the right side of the lounge, there are large floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural lighting and more seating with views of the ramp outside.
If you have been out exploring all day and need a place to freshen up, shower suites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. I didn’t use them but they didn’t look like they were well stocked with amenities.
Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge Frankfurt Bottom Line:
Overall, I really like the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at Frankfurt. I think it’s one of the better lounges in the Maple Leaf Lounge network; both in terms of décor and amenities, and I would honestly rather hang out here for an hour than trek over to the Lufthansa lounge nearby. On the day of my visit, the food and beverage options were good, especially for a morning flight, and there was plenty of room to spread out and relax. That being said, I have also heard numerous complaints about the lounge being crowded and unmanageable at certain times so your experience may vary.
